There are many parts of our profession that are unknown by the public.  We are sometimes viewed as ambulance “drivers” or a “glorified taxi driver”.  As part of our service to the community, we are trained in emergency scene stabilization and care of patients.  When someone from the community has an emergency and calls 911 for an ambulance, our crews are able to arrive promptly and provide initial, and when needed, life sustaining treatment before being taken to the hospital.  The crews use their judgement and experience to determine how and when to move patients, and the facilities and capabilities of what hospital to take them to.  In addition, WLAD is one of the few ground transporting agencies that have sent their personnel to off-site critical care training.  This special training is taught by expert physicians providing their pertinent knowledge of how to provide the best treatment for you in the prehospital setting.
